چکیده

results the analysis of data for c/t snp showed that the cc genotype is more common in the control group than in the group of patients. in contrast, the frequency of tt as a mutant genotype is more frequent in patients than in uninfected people. in addition, results showed a statistically significant relationship between cc, ct, and tt genotypes in sensitive and resistant groups (p value: < 0.001, or: 0.003, ci: 0-0.047). this relationship was also examined in terms of allele frequency, to determine whether the possibility of resistance to treatment in patients with t allele is more than in patients who carry c allele (p value: < 0.001). conclusions these results showed a significant effect between rs12979860 snp and sustained virological response (svr) rate in iranian patients with chronic hcv. to decrease the cost of long treatments and to prevent severe side effects, determining this polymorphism at the beginning of treatment can be very helpful for patients and physicians. background the current medical treatment for hepatitis c virus (hcv) infection is pegylated interferon plus ribavirin, but just 50% of genotype 1 hcv patients and about 80% of hcv genotype 3 patients are treated completely. recently, the rs12979860 c/t polymorphism, which is located 3 kb upstream of the il28b gene that codes ifnλ3, shows a powerful association in response to the treatment in hcv patients. patients and methods in this cross-sectional study, 108 blood samples were collected from chronic patients in iran; 50 unrelated healthy subject samples were also collected. genomic dna was extracted, and rs12979860 snp was done by pcr-rflp. finally, products were detected on 12% polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. objectives the aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between il28b single nucleotide polymorphism (snp) and treatment outcomes among chronic hcv patients in iran.

Role of IL28-B Polymorphism (rs12979860) on Sustained Virological Response to Pegylated Interferon/Ribavirin in Iranian Patients With Chronic Hepatitis C

BACKGROUND The current medical treatment for hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection is pegylated interferon plus ribavirin, but just 50% of genotype 1 HCV patients and about 80% of HCV genotype 3 patients are treated completely. Recently, the rs12979860 C/T polymorphism, which is located 3 kb upstream of the IL28b gene that codes IFNλ3, shows a powerful association in response to the treatment in HC...

Influence of Vitamin D Receptor Gene Polymorphisms on Response to Pegylated Interferon in Chronic Hepatitis B Egyptian Patients

Background: We explored the effect of vitamin D receptor gene (VDR) polymorphisms in response to PEG-IFN treatment in Egyptian chronic hepatitis B (CHB) patients. Methods: Two hundred hepatitis B virus (HBV) patients (42.3±10.7 years) on PEG-IFN α-2a (180 μg /kg for 48 weeks) and one hundred control subjects (37.3 ±12 years) were enrolled in the study. Vitamin D levels a...

the effect of interleukin 28 b polymorphism on sustained virology response (svr) in patients with chronic hepatitis c

background: the effect of il 28 b polymorphism on sustained virology response (svr) in patients with hepatitis c genotype 1 varies among races.â multiple studies have shown that the svr is two or three times higher in patients with cc genotype compared to those with tt genotype. this study aims to assess the relationship between il 28 b polymorphism and svr in iranian patients. materials and m...

Durability of a sustained virological response in chronic hepatitis C patients treated with pegylated interferon alfa and ribavirin

BACKGROUND/AIMS The reappearance rates of hepatitis C virus (HCV) RNA after a sustained virological response (SVR) have been reported to be 1-2%. We investigated the reappearance rate of HCV RNA after SVR in chronic hepatitis C (CHC) patients treated with pegylated interferon (PEG-IFN) and ribavirin. METHODS In total, 292 CHC patients who achieved an SVR after PEG-IFN and ribavirin treatment ...

Effect of HFE gene polymorphism on sustained virological response in patients with chronic hepatitis C and elevated serum ferritin.

CONTEXT Abnormal serum ferritin levels are found in approximately 20%-30% of the patients with chronic hepatitis C and are associated with a lower response rate to interferon therapy. OBJECTIVE To determine if the presence of HFE gene mutations had any effect on the sustained virological response rate to interferon based therapy in chronic hepatitis C patients with elevated serum ferritin. ...

Long term clinical outcome of chronic hepatitis C patients with sustained virological response to interferon monotherapy.

BACKGROUND The key end point for treatment efficacy in chronic hepatitis C is absence of detectable virus at six months after treatment. However, the incidence of clinical events during long term follow up of patients with sustained virological response is still poorly documented and may differ between the Eastern and Western world. AIMS To assess clinical end points during long term follow u...
